Fake medal...

Well...here's what happened to the race weekend I've been training weeks for.  It was kind of a let down but it would have been crazy to try a long run in that heat.  It was simply unbearable by noon.  There were some athletes taken off the course connected to IVs.  There was a highlight-Luke surprised me by bringing all the boys up to see me finish...his morning was much more complex than mine for sure.

"IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie Athletes,

Due to an Excessive Heat Warning issued by The National Weather Service, tomorrow’s IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie has been shortened for safety reasons. The forecast calls for “record breaking high temperatures” with potential heat index readings between 107 and 114 degrees Fahrenheit, the highest temperatures the event has seen in its more than 30-year history.

Enhanced athlete safety precautions include an earlier start time, condensed start times between swim waves and aid stations located every half-mile along the run, as well as additional cooling stations and tents set up along the course and at the finish line.

The race will now begin at 6:30 a.m. and will consist of a 1-mile swim, 30-mile bike and 10K run."

The medal is nice...but not accurate as we only completed 37 point something miles.
I want to wear this swim cap again...so I made some alterations with a sharpie. ;)

update race times are in:

overall rank 1341 out of 1531 (transition times killed me big time against similar paced racers. I need to work on that picnic, take a break mindset I must have had between the bike and run ;)

swim: 38:22 (faster than goal-whoohoo)
Bike: 1:37:56 (2 mph faster than goal at 18 miles per hour avg-whooohoo)
Run: 1:14:20 (11+ minute miles...should have tried to go faster on last two miles...but it was hot ;)
