Saw dad this afternoon. He was his usual self even with post surgery discomfort; he had us all laughing with his one liners influenced by pain meds. Apparently his cell phone was missing shortly after surgery and mom claims that stressed him out way more than cancer ever did... ;) You can just imagine our family all crammed into a hospital room...the nurses just keep bringing chairs and extra furniture items to the room-labeling our gathering "a party". =) It would have been a way better party for dad if he could have eaten anything...he kept asking for french fries when anyone new came to see him...if you know my dad, he wouldn't have really wanted french fries, but I think he would have eaten anything smuggled in passed the nurse.
The particulars: the mass was approximately 3 cm in size but the surgeon was very encouraged by how contained everything looked when he went in to remove it. The cancer doesn't appear to be as aggressive as typical pancreatic cancer at this point and didn't look like it had spread to surrounding tissue yet. They removed 1/3 of his pancreas and some lymph nodes surrounding it. We won't know for several days if there is cancer present in other parts of his lymphatic system. In short-things couldn't have looked any better today.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!
