I like unexpected gifts...a lot. So much in fact that Luke and I trade gifts all year and usually not on specific holidays or birthdays respectively. Flowers on Valentines day are nice, but flowers for no reason at all, well...that is something quite enduring. Why is it? Is it because it's not earned and assumed? Then how much more is grace an amazing gift in light of that? What is this idea that we must work work work for God's favor or somehow have dates that we are in his good graces and other times not? God's love is unexpected and yet eternally expected all the time because it's who he is. Maybe the most unexpected part of it is how He chooses to show it. God never has been on our calendar and doesn't oblige to drop a dozen roses on the door step because he's supposed to. The love God shows is so in tune and individual that the times it shines through the brightest will leave a heart changed forever.
